Dayton To Continue Meetings On Stadium Plans

ST. PAUL (WCCO) -- This is a crucial week for the Vikings stadium plans. Gov. Mark Dayton has another meeting on the issue for Monday, and he wants results by the end of the week.

Even though the team has said they'd like to build at the Arden Hills site, there are some possibilities that Minneapolis isn't quite off the table.

Gov. Dayton will meet with Minneapolis Mayor R.T. Rybak at the Capitol on Monday.

A spokesperson for the Mayor says he plans to talk to the Governor about his interest in having a new stadium in Minneapolis if the Arden Hills plan falls through.

Dayton said he wants all stadium ideas written down and given to him by Friday.

His plan is to put a bill together that will include where the stadium will go and who will pay for it. Then Dayton said he'll give it to lawmakers to debate.

Senate Majority Leader Amy Koch was on WCCO Sunday Morning. She said she wants people to have a chance to decide whether they want to pay for a new stadium.

"I would like to see a referendum on Arden Hills," she said. "And I would support seeing that referendum on the ballot."

The Governor plans on taking a couple of weeks to put together a stadium proposal. He's talked about calling a special session in November.

He wants lawmakers to decide once and for all whether Minnesota will move forward on a new Vikings stadium.
