10 Killed In Suicide Bombing, Mpls. Man Suspected

MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) -- Somali officials say the man believed to be responsible for the deaths of 10 people in an alleged suicide bombing was from Minneapolis.

A Somali militant group posted a recording online, they claim was made by an American citizen who blew himself up during a suicide attack on an African Union base.

The attack happened Saturday and at least 10 people were killed.

Omar Jamal, the first secretary of the Somali Mission, said that the event marks at least the fourth time a Somali American has carried out suicide bombing in Somalia.

He said the bomber was a teenager when he left Minneapolis in November of 2008. Jamal said there is enormous support for Al Shabab, the somali-based terror group, here in Minnesota.

FBI PIO Agent Kyle Loven said they are aware of the situation in Somalia regarding the terrorist attack and are currently waiting for DNA results of the bomber. Once the bomber is positively identified, the FBI will move forward in their investigation.
