Suspect Arrested In Fatal Minneapolis Shooting

MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) — What started as a Halloween party became the scene of a homicide early Sunday morning.

Minneapolis Police were called to an apartment on the 3000 block of Pleasant Avenue South at 6:30 a.m. Sunday, where they found a man shot and killed.

Police arrested the suspect, identified as Felix Hernandez-Pedraza, shortly after the incident, at a nearby intersection.

Still, the family of the victim say they’re shocked this happened in the first place.

Disbelief was step-mom Nicole Corrigan and father Francisco Hernandez’s initial reaction to the call from their sister-in-law early Sunday morning.

“He died in her arms,” Corrigan said. “I still can’t believe it. I’m still expecting him to come out.”

Corrigan said the place where their son was shot was his friend’s apartment. Police say inside the apartment at the time of the party were 10 adults and several children.

“I guess they were having a little party, I don’t know who all was there,” Corrigan said.

The victim, 21-year-old Francisco Hernandez, has three children under the age of 4. His family confirms none of them were at the apartment at the time of the shooting.

“They’re never going to know their father. He has a 2-year-old sister that completely loves him. She’s going to miss him and wonder why he’s never coming home again,” Corrigan said.

Witnesses inside the apartment told police they saw the suspect. Police say they identified him leaving the area and pulled the man over at the intersection of Pillsbury Avenue and Lake Street. Police took the Hernandez-Pedraza into custody.

They say he suffered non-life threatening stab wounds and was transported to Hennepin County Medical Center for treatment.

“All I was told is that there was a struggle, and that he was shot and killed after that,” Corrigan said.

The victim’s family says they know their son has been over to this friend’s apartment before, and they don’t know what could’ve caused the violence.

“We’ll never have him back now, and it’s senseless,” Corrigan said.

Minneapolis Police say a language barrier is making the circumstances leading up to the shooting and stabbing unclear.

I will use the expression “these people” or people like them.
These people are costing this country billions in health care, emergency room fees,
Francisco is 21 and has 3 children. I hope he had a good job and was able to support and nurture them when he was alive.
Meanwhile his killer is taken to ER at who’s expense.
Who in the he-l pays for all of this.
All the while I willingly pay for my insurance and the co pays and deductibles that go along with it.
Though it comes out of my pocket I will wait with the rest of you …. in the ER should my time come.
Why must the revolution come from people who have nothing including not having a work ethic to speak of.
Why can there be a revolution by those who work hard and honestly and decide to keep what they’ve earned.. and revolt so their tax dollars are returned in some manner other than the welfare of the dull minded and the thieving poor.
Have the working rich and middle class become so docile and meed that we willing stand in a line with those who’ve given nothing or are willing to make the effort or express appreciation.

To answer your question…Yes he had a job. No matter what happened he didn’t deserve to die. His kids will not know him and his family will suffer greatly.
He had a father, mother, step mother, lots of aunts and uncles, cousins and friends. He will be greatly missed. German I love you.

I am his aunt and it sickens me that even in death people can be so cruel!!
I pray for anyone who has lost a loved one no matter what the reasons!!!

You are making the assumption that the guy who was taken to the ER doesn’t have health insurance. The article doesn’t say whether he does or does not. So, you are pre-judging the situation.

      “liam gilmorasy
How can you live with yourself?

      • al

How can Liam live with himself? Very easy when you are accurate with your comments as pertains what is happening out there. Very hard to live with the plethora of very naive, politically correct Minnesotans, however.

        • bethechangeyouwanttoseeintheworld

You are perpetuating the problem not providing a solution.

        • al the second

You mean hateful and ignorant comments

      • riding the welfare train

21 years old with 3 children?

        • max

Like that doesn’t happen in White Appalachia all the time….

    • just sayin

Don’t forget, he was 21, and had a 2 year old sister!?!?!?!?!?!?!?

      • max

You have no idea whether anyone involved is, or is not, on welfare. You, too, are prejudging.

        • riding the welfare train

@max, they all come to Mn for the welfare.

          • max

Who are “they?” You are personally acquainted with each and every one of them so you know why they came to MN? Blanket statements like the one you made do nothing but highlight your own personal prejudices.

            • riding the welfare train

Give it up max. The buses are full everyday from Chicago to our welfare office.

              • max

You know this because you are the bus driver? And, of course, you have engaged all of your passengers who have confessed to you they plan to file for welfare as soon as they get off the bus?

I would suggest to you that you “give it up” as well, but I understand some folks have a difficult time giving up their prejudices.

                • riding the welfare train

haha max. That predjudice arguement no longer works.

  • Jake

Nice photo. You know that they say that a picture speaks a thousand words? I never understood why some people have a photo published of some dead guy or perp who looks so ‘extreme’.

  • Michele

Omigod, a man is DEAD! People die regardless of whether they are rich or they are poor, and it is not for US to moralize on whether they deserved it!

liam, you’re going to die no matter how carefully you live your life. It might be in bed when you’re ninety, or maybe it’s going to be walking in front of the light rail tomorrow with your nose is buried in the Wall Street Journal. The important thing is leaving people behind who are going to be sorry that you’re gone. You might want to think about that.

Darren, a Pollock is a FISH.

  • Jake

Sounds like someone brought a knife to a GUNFIGHT, and lost. Maybe the shooter, who had knife wounds, is innocent. I know this, if you pull a knife on a cop, and refuse to drop it, they have the legal right to shoot you dead. Just because the dead guy has 3 little rug rats doesn’t make him innocent automatically.

  • Hose B

What? No Minneapolis cop speaks Illegal Immigrant? Come on. there has to be a few on the force.

Damn white folks. Learn to spell.

  • jackactionhero

If he had 3 kids, why is he out partying until 6:30 in the morning? Any bets as to how many mothers his 3 kids have? Think he’s ever been married? Think any of the mothers of those 3 kids have kids with other men too?

It’s one big happy cycle. The mom has kids with a few random dudes, the kid has kids with a few random chicks. The apple and the tree, folks…

What is wrong with you people? This family is suffering and going through a tramatic loss and all you can do is say nothing but negative things. Who are you to say anything especially if you didn’t know this man or his family? Yes you are entitled to your opinion but didn’t your mother teach you if you can’t say anything nice don’t say anything at all? Come on now you could be a little considerate to this family and show them your condolances instead of talking trash. To the family, I am sorry for your loss, my thought and prayers will be with you especially the 3 young children.
