Vikings Beat Panthers 24-21

CHARLOTTE, N.C. (AP) — Ryan Longwell kicked a 31-yard field goal with 2:43 left in the game to lift the Minnesota Vikings to a 24-21 victory over the Carolina Panthers on Sunday.

Cam Newton put the Panthers (2-6) in position to tie the game in the final two minutes. He completed a 44-yard pass to Brandon LaFell on fourth-and-15, but Olindo Mare was wide left with a 31-yard field goal attempt with 26 seconds left.

Adrian Peterson had 162 yards from scrimmage and scored two touchdowns as the Vikings (2-6) snapped a two-game losing streak.

Christian Ponder won the battle of rookie quarterbacks, completing 18 of 28 passes for 236 yards and one touchdown.

Newton threw a season-best three touchdown passes, but had two costly fumbles on blindside hits that led to a pair of Minnesota touchdowns in the first half. Carolina’s offense sputtered throughout most of the second half, going three-and-out three times.

    1. fred says:

ponder is just blowing his load wait for a game or two and you will see how he really is,

      1. Real Talk says:

Fred, you are an idiot. Your comment makes zero sense. Plus…wait for a couple games and keep watching the kid improve….all indications point to him being a solid starting QB.

      2. jackactionhero says:

Fred, you don’t have the slightest clue about that which you attempt to speak.

    2. Kevin says:

Yes !!! we need a new stadium.
GO VIKINGS !!!! fyi> GREEN BAY SUCKS.

  2. Let 'em leave. says:

NO NEW STADIUM. NO NEW TAXES. If Zygi wants to play, he pays.

They should leave before any more get arrested. Our kids need better role models than these “sports actors.”

The vikings are just not that important for us to pay higher taxes.

    1. Kevin says:

blah blah blah…get a life loser, For your info, we need our Vikings here, if you are not happy…get back to any Wisconsin bar.
      GO VIKINGS…
      packers sucks.

    2. LetULeave says:

Of course your children can’t look to you as a role model.

  3. NO TAX MONEY !!!! LUCKY !! says:

LUCKY THEY MISSED THAT KICK !!!!! LOOOOOSERS !!! LEAVE !!! 2-8 NEXT !!! HA HA HA !!

    1. Dah says:

2-8 next? I believe they’re 2-6 right now. I love how you always spell it looooosers because you don’t know how to spell “losers” swallow the tailpipe of a running car.

  4. fred says:

get a win and you think you need a new field, maybe you should try and win a super bowl then you could try and get what you want, loosers!!!!!!

    1. Mayhem says:

Another fudge packer backer needs spell check…go figure

I would think all NFL teams are trying to win a SB this year…and every year. But I could be wrong….but probably not

Vikes got two wins, genius. And yes, we think we get a new field.

Now go out and get yourself a couple $200 stock option thingies so your stadium can pack in another beer stand or two.

      Idiot.

    2. jackactionhero says:

Loosers is not a word in the English language, Fred. Maybe you should try to learn the language before commenting, butt head.

  5. angus says:

Carolina would have had 1st and goal at the 2 yard line with approximately 4o seconds on the clock. A flag was dropped and I thought it appeared a late hit out of bounds on the Carolina quarterback. The ref missed that but saw a holding penalty yars up field, canceling the gain.
    Let us review:
The NFL and the Vikings want a new stadium – don’t need it just want it
The NFL is ruthless in doing whatever they want to get what they want
A losing VIking team does not help in the fight for a new stadium
This controversial play was not rerun
The members of the media know if they upset the NFL they are banned and their employers will not back them.

    All very interesting

translated….whaaaaaaaa, whaaaaaaaa, whaaaaaaaaa, whaaaaaaaaa…Life is sooooo unfair….I want my mommy!!!!!! whaaaaaaaaa….!!!!!!

“The NFL and the Vikings want a new stadium – don’t need it just want it”

Ya, thats how it works when stadium issues come up for all teams – not just the Vikes – why should the Vikings be any different?

“The NFL is ruthless in doing whatever they want to get what they want”

translated….whaaaaaaaa, whaaaaaaaa, whaaaaaaaaa, whaaaaaaaaa…Life is sooooo unfair….I want my mommy!!!!!! whaaaaaaaaa….Big meanie stole my lunch money….!!!!!

“A losing VIking team does not help in the fight for a new stadium”

Doesnt help much getting into the playoffs either but getting a stadium approved is more likely to happen….get over it…SKOL VIKES!!!!

“This controversial play was not rerun”

I dont think you even understood your comment there……

“The members of the media know if they upset the NFL they are banned and their employers will not back them.”

You obviously are harboring some resentment over a recent firing. Probably you should keep that to yourself, no one cares really.

  6. No tax money for a stadium says:

Yeah, they barely squeaked out a win and who gives a rat’s dupa anyway. They still don’t deserve a new stadium at taxpayer’s expense and never will.

If Zygi doesn’t pay his own way, I’ll be happy to see him move the team. It won’t be easy for him to find another city willing to foot the bill for a team who has spent 51 years not winning a Super Bowl.

    1. jackactionhero says:

He is paying his way, you uninformed mongoloid. He is putting up more of his own money than any owner in the history of the NFL for a stadium.

  7. MrB says:

To all you losers who keep crying “No Taxes”, save your breath, it will hapen, we will get a new stadium, anyone care to wager against what I say? I will take all wagers for any amount. Come on you bitc in cry babies! Most of you couldn’t even tell where your taxes go let alone how much you make!

    1. Why do you resort to name calling? says:

I know where my tax money goes, and my income (more grammatically correct than “how much you make”). Speaking of grammer, do you know how to spell?

If you follow the news or read the paper, you most likely know this is a bi-partisan issue in the Legislature. The elected lawmakers might have to struggle to gain support for additional taxes to fund a private enterprise during the state’s budget crisis.. These comments alone are 6-3 against a new stage for these entertainers.

      1. keel says:

        ….uh…I think it’s “grammar”….just a thought

      2. MrB says:

Oh god it’s the internet spelling police. I resort to name calling because it’s idiots like you that make my point “more grammatically” correct. Care to place a wager? If not go to the corner of the room and sit down and be quiet!

      3. Mayhem says:

so youre ok with the bazillion dollars in welfare handouts in AND out of state, which MN ranks in the top 5 in generosity as far as that goes….

but that half cent tax that will improve the quality of life here pushes you over the edge, eh?

do you and the other whiners like you really know what youre arguing for…..for or against???

        Im thinking pretty much NOT.

    2. Most of you,,,,,, says:

“Most of you couldn’t even tell where your taxes go let alone how much you make!”

How many of “us” did you poll before making that profound statement? Was it by phone, a mailer or perhaps a query in a shopping mall?

  8. It's just football says:

So now let’s see. The Viking have won 2 games this year. How may games have the opponents over which they claim victory won? You may note that the Gophers have also won 2 games this year.

    1. Kevin says:

It’s just football? is just our life we love❤ MINNESOTA.

  9. Brad says:

I tell you what, after listening to all the cry babies, who have never probably played a sport in there lives because they might have gotten an ouchie boo boo on there knee, forget them. I tell you what, build the stadium in the south metro, Dakota County would love to have you. We have plenty of space, plenty of roads, econonmically sound, the richest county in the state. If you build in Blaine or Arden Hills, do you think the load of the money is coming from there?, its coming right up from the south and west metro. Half those towns around where you want to build don’t have two nickles to rub together. We can sure tell where the sissy’s live though.

    1. @Brad says:

Wow, Dakota county has money because of Mystic Lake and that is the only reason why they have it, a stadium isn’t going in Dakota county because the engines won’t pay a nickel for it, I could care less where they build it, or if I pay for it, it’s 10cents on every $20 dollars. —— “never probably played a sport” lol such a solid sentence—–

  10. Kevin says:

I see a lot of enemies here, I see stupid packers fans…
packers fans you guys live here in Mn, so pay your taxes for our NEW STADIUM

  11. Paula says:

Nice win by the Vikes, but once again the coaching was horrible! Case in point, look at the two challenges that Frazier threw the flag, clearly they were bad calls, and lost two time outs. And why do they keep running AP up the middle into a crowd of players? Come up with some different pay calls!!
