WASHINGTON (WCCO) — After a suicide bombing in Somalia this past weekend was linked to a young man from Minneapolis, homeland security is on the minds of law enforcement here. Amelia Santaniello had the chance to ask Homeland Security Secretary Janet Napalitano about it Tuesday.
She says the greatest guard against home grown terrorism is strong law enforcement at the local level. Her Department works very closely with agents here in the Twin Cities.
“Our civil rights and civil liberties section has worked extensively with the Somali-American community in Minneapolis, which is a very law abiding community overall. But it does have this one connect with al Shabab that we all have to be concerned about,” said Napalitano.
Napalitano says the President’s American Jobs Bill will commit $5 billion for local police and firefighters.
