Man Gets Nearly 30 Years For Killing Wife In Dayton Home

MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) – A 50-year-old Dayton man was sentenced Wednesday to nearly 30 years in prison in connection with the murder of his wife in their Dayton home back in June.

John Edward Bogema was charged on July 17 in connection with the June 10 incident and pleaded guilty on Sept. 13. He was sentenced to 359 months in prison in Hennepin County Court on Wednesday on a felony second-degree intentional murder charge.

Authorities were called at about 4:45 a.m. on June 10 to Bogema's residence on the 13000 block of Vinewood Lane in Dayton on a report of a dead body inside the home. When they arrived, they found the body of 58-year-old Georgia Lee Bogema in the home. The Hennepin County Medical Examiner's Office later said the woman died of multiple stab wounds.

John Bogema confessed to killing his wife that morning after calling the incident into police.

According to a criminal complaint, he cut his wife's throat. Before he called police, he called his wife's son and left a message saying "I'm sorry, I'm sorry, I'm sorry. I'm going back to the mental hospital."
