Charges: Mother Punched Daughter, 11, Several Times

ST. PAUL, Minn. (WCCO) – A 48-year-old St. Paul woman is accused of punching her 11-year-old daughter several times after a domestic incident, according to charges filed Thursday by the Ramsey County Attorney's Office.

Linda Jene Thomas was charged with one felony count of domestic assault and one count of malicious punishment of a child in connection with the incident.

According to a criminal complaint, St. Paul Police were called to a residence on the 90 block of Magnolia Avenue West at about 7:24 p.m. Tuesday on a report of a domestic assault of a child. When authorities arrived, they spoke with a man who dropped his son off at the residence and he said that Thomas started yelling at them.

The complaint states his 11-year-old daughter, who was upstairs in the home during the argument, came downstairs to get a glass of water. That's when Thomas yelled at the girl to go back upstairs or she would beat her up. Before the girl had any time to turn around, Thomas proceeded to punch the girl in the face, causing her nose to bleed.

Both the man and his son had to pull Thomas off the girl, according to the complaint. Both also told police that Thomas had been drinking heavily for the past two days and has a severe drinking problem. The victim had blood coming from her nose and going down her shirt. They also both told police Thomas punched the girl in the face several times and threw her to the floor.

Thomas told police the girl was punched in the face when she got in the middle of a fight between Thomas and the man, but that it was not true that she punched the girl several more times and threw her to the floor, the complaint states.

Thomas was arrested and is currently in the Ramsey County Jail. She faces up to six years in jail and $13,000 in fines.
