Community Spotlight: Swim Team's Help With Special Olympics

Each week we like to say thanks to school organizations that are giving back to the community.

This week, it's coach Mike Gerads and his Robbinsdale Cooper swim teams.

Gerads got involved in the Special Olympics program because he has a brother with Down Syndrome. So, he asked the boys' and girls' swim teams to help out.

They volunteer in the pool with Special Olympics athletes. That dedication is why they deserve the $500 Community Spotlight Award.

"It's emotional for the athletes in a happy, kind of fun way, and for the Cooper swimmers, it's emotional because it kinda touches them. And it's fun for us, too," Gerads said.

Thanks to Sieben, Grose, Von Holtum and Carey for helping us with the award.
