Good (Morning) Question: Floss Before Or After Brushing?

MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) -- Jason DeRusha answers Good Questions on weeknights at 10 p.m., but the WCCO Morning Show figured you all had some queries when it comes to mornings.

So DeRusha reached into his mailbag and pulled out a few Good (Morning) Questions, and will do so every Friday morning.

LeeAnn Lombardo: Why does my shower screech when I turn the hot water on?

We've all heard that sound first thing in the morning; that loud noise when we turn on the shower.

WCCO called Ben Franklin Plumbing and they said it's common - but not normal or good.

The easiest fix is if the holes in the shower head are clogged, that might make it turn into a whistle noise. To fix that you'll want to take off the shower head, put it in CLR or another cleaner and see if that unclogs it.

There could also be air getting into the shower line, maybe from the fill valve on the toilet. When you open up the shower, that air is released, hence the screech.

Or it may be the most costly expense -- you could need a whole new shower stem either replaced or rebuilt.

Here's what the American Dental Association says: before or after -- it doesn't really matter.

There's some benefit to using floss before you brush: the fluoride from the toothpaste has a better chance of getting between your teeth.

Also, flossing after may make it feel like your teeth are already clean, so you may skip the flossing. But dentists say you would miss the plaque in-between the teeth.
