ST. PAUL, Minn. (AP) — A jury has convicted a Roman Catholic priest of sexual misconduct involving a woman he was counseling at a St. Paul church.

Jurors Tuesday convicted the Rev. Christopher Wenthe of Delano on one count of third-degree criminal sexual conduct.

Wenthe was convicted of engaging in illegal sexual conduct with the victim in late 2003, when she sought spiritual counseling. He was acquitted of a second charge that he engaged in continuing illegal sexual conduct with the woman until February 2005.

The Star Tribune reports that Wenthe testified he had a sexual relationship with the woman but denied providing spiritual aid when the sex occurred.

Sentencing is set for Dec. 14.

The Archdiocese of St. Paul-Minneapolis says it regrets the woman’s “pain and suffering” and continues to offer her assistance.

The story wouldn’t be so sensational or suspect if he weren’t 37 or 8 when she was a vulnerable & probably kooky 21 y.o. The icing on the cake is the Arch’s letter asking her to “trust the shepards of the Church”. Really??? Honestly. Archbishop Nienstad will be the end of this Archdiocese as we knew it…..I spose some of you think it’s a good thing. I do not. Ask the Arch how they’re doing financially. And ask individual parishes how they’re doing. Not good and it’s not all based on the economy.

A Preist is being charged sexual misconduct for having consensual sex with an adult woman?

And gays think they are being persecuted?

He was in a position of power. Always a bad thing to take advantage of someone when you are an authority figure. Now if he just went to a bar and got laid OK. When someone comes for help… NOT OK.

      1. See BS says:

Priests are not authority figures or medical professionals — the Constitution does not give religious people any “Authority” over citizens of the United States at all.

It’s not the governments job to dictate who can and cannot have gonad genitals, having gonad genitals is an inalienable right.

And President Clinton wasn’t in a Position of Power?

You are a very ignorant person “SEE BS”

Too bad we are suppose to be living in a free society — we’re suppose to raise taxes so people can play stupid and someone goes to prison?

      1. EJ says:

There are over 500000 on the Registered Sex Offenders. What does that tell you about the Laws and how our so called Free Society thinks? We have 2..6 million in prison, top in the World.
