TWO HARBORS, Minn. (WCCO) – The State Patrol has identified one of the two motorists killed along the north shore in a collision early Monday morning.

According to the State Patrol, the crash happened at about 6 a.m. along Highway 61 near Gooseberry River.

A Chevrolet S10 being driven by 22-year-old Aaron Nelson, of Wrenshall, Minn., was traveling northbound on the highway, lost control on an icy bridge deck and crossed into the opposing lane, where it was broadsided by another vehicle.

Nelson died as a result of the crash.

A passenger in the vehicle also died, but the State Patrol didn’t release that person’s identity.

The driver of the other vehicle, a Jeep Liberty, sustained only minor injuries.
