Man Charged With Murder For Fatal Bar Fight

PROCTOR, MINN. (WCCO) — A man has been charged with murder after a fist fight at a bar in Proctor, Minn.

Paul Welle, 32, was charged Tuesday with second-degree murder and first-degree manslaughter for the death of 60-year-old Dale Anderson.

Anderson, from Blaine, Minn., died last Nov. 9, three days after being found lying on the ground outside the bar.

According to The Duluth News Tribune, a witness said Welle was pressuring a woman to leave the bar with him, and Anderson told him to leave the woman alone. The criminal complaint says that Anderson even offered to pose as the woman's father to deter Welle.

Police said Welle told investigators that Anderson hit him twice and he responded by hitting him back in the face.

The criminal complaint says Welle fled the scene after Anderson collapsed.

The St. Louis County Medical Examiner's Office determined Anderson died as a result of an extensive subdural hemorrhage in the brain, due to a skull fracture at the base of his skull.

Welle remains in jail. Bail is set at $400,000.
