Vikings Switch To Hand Held Metal Detectors For Security

MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) – Changes are being implemented by the Minnesota Vikings security personnel starting this weekend to hopefully make getting into the Metrodome a safer and less invasive process.

Starting for Sunday's game against the Oakland Raiders, which is a noon kick-off, security personnel will be using hand-held metal detectors for entrance into the game. The process replaces the current pat-down procedure that takes longer and can be seen as more invasive.

The hand-held metal detectors will be in limited use for Sunday's game, but officials said they will be used at all gates by the time the Vikings host the Denver Broncos on Sunday, Dec. 4.

To prepare for the changes this weekend, Vikings officials are encouraging fans to arrive at the Metrodome early and allow extra time to get into the stadium. They also are urging fans to cooperate with security personnel and patience as security staff adjusts to the new system.
