2 Charged After Man Shot 11 Times In Mpls Murder

MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) – Two people have been charged and one person is still on the loose following a fatal shooting in Minneapolis last weekend.

The Hennepin County Attorney's Office charged 32-year-old Kashaun Damon Pierce of Richfield with one count of second-degree murder in connection with the shooting. Pierce is not currently in custody, is believed to be out of the state and there is a warrant out for his arrest.

Also charged in the shooting was 21-year-old Janette Pliego of Richfield, the girlfriend of the victim. She has been charged with accomplice after the fact for misleading police several times during the investigation.

According to a criminal complaint, witnesses reported seeing several men arguing in the street late Saturday night near the intersection of 44th Street East and 33rd Avenue South in Minneapolis. Shots were then fired, and a man later identified as Delwin Cooper was killed. Authorities said Cooper died from as many as 11 gunshot wounds.

A car registered to Pierce was found the next day and towed by police to collect evidence. A BMW registered to Cooper was seen on fire in north Minneapolis, and a witness said they saw a man pouring gas on the car and then walking away. One other witness said Pierce had burns on his face after the car fire was reported.

Pliego is in custody and could face up to 13 years in jail for the incident. If Pierce is found and convicted, he faces up to 40 years in prison.
