Hybrids Safer — But Not For Pedestrians

It turns out hybrids are safer than their conventional car counterparts. Studies show it is because they weigh more because of their battery.

However, they are not safer for pedestrians.

    I heard a GM rep describe the Volt’s battery, which runs down the middle, as a extra “steel beam.”
