Minn. Political Parties Make Their Case With Maps

ST. PAUL, Minn. (AP) -- Minnesota political parties, show your maps.

Friday is the deadline for the parties to submit their ideal versions of congressional and legislative maps to a special court. The court panel is deciding what district lines should look like for the 2012 election and those that will follow for the next decade.

It's a key step in the redistricting fight now under way.

Every 10 years district boundaries are adjusted to account for population changes in the census. The aim is to create districts for each office with similar populations.

The court will determine what the maps look like unless Gov. Mark Dayton and the Legislature reach a deal on them before late February. Dayton has said a deal is unlikely.
