Police: Man Posts Profile Pic Of Himself On Cop Car

MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) -- Police arrested a Brooklyn Park man after he allegedly posted a Facebook picture of himself standing on a squad car.

According to the criminal complaint, on Aug. 13, 2011, a Champlin Police squad car was damaged while parked at a Holiday Station store on 12024 Champlin Drive. Footprints on the car indicated that someone had climbed on the squad car, resulting in damage exceeding $1,000.

Several weeks later, an off-duty Champlin Police officer was online and noticed that a Facebook friend had a contact with a profile picture of a man standing on top the same squad car that was damaged, the complaint said. Police identified that man as 28-year-old Daniel Steven Magadanz.

Police said the picture was posted on the same day the car was damaged.

Magadanz failed to return several messages left for him by the police, according to police. He first stated he didn't receive any messages, but later admitted that he did and was planning on returning the calls.

On Thursday, Magadanz was charged with one count of first-degree damage to property in excess of $1,000 in connection to the incident.

He is in custody.

If convicted, he faces a maximum potential sentence of 5 years in prison and/or a $10,000 fine.
