Some Flakes In The Weekend Forecast

MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) -- The Twin Cities have taken advantage of a very warm and dry autumn, but this weekend could bring the area its first real taste of winter. Yes, we're talking snow.

Augustyniak said it looks like much of Minnesota could see some flakes between Saturday morning and Sunday evening, but it should be a quick-moving system, so no area should see precipitation for longer than about 12 hours.

The area that can expect to see the most snow accumulation will be from west central Minnesota up toward Duluth, including Alexandria and Brainerd. Those areas could see anywhere from 3 to 6 inches of snow.

Augustyniak said precipitation will start in the Twin Cities metro area during the early afternoon, with rain possibly mixing in with the snow at the beginning.

Most of the Twin Cities area is likely to receive 1 or 2 inches, with less falling in the southern portion of the metro area. Dakota and Scott counties, in particular, could receive only a dusting.

The St. Cloud area could get up to 3 inches.

The snow in the metro area shouldn't start until late afternoon or early evening on Saturday.

Augustyniak said the system will also be bringing some cooler temperatures down from the north. Highs early next week will hover around the freezing mark, stalling out in the upper 20s on Sunday.

However, there looks to be sun in the forecast leading up to Thanksgiving, so the odds that the weekend snow will still be on the ground by then are slim.
