Vikings' Cook Faces A 2nd Felony Charge

MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) -- The criminal complaint against Minnesota Vikings CB Chris Cook has been amended to add another felony charge for the alleged choking incident from October.

Cook, who was already charged with domestic assault by strangulation, for allegedly choking his girlfriend during an argument now faces an additional charge of third-degree assault.

According to the complaint, Cook's girlfriend reported she suffered a perforated ear drum as a result of the assault and now has hearing loss because of it.

The woman told police the incident occurred on Oct. 22 because Cook was upset with her for contacting an ex-boyfriend. He threw the woman on a bed and grabbed her neck with an open hand, making it difficult for her to breathe, according to charges.

She was able to get free by pulling Cook's hair but when she stood up, Cook hit her in the ear, causing her to hit the wall, according to the complaint.

Cook then followed her and again squeezed her neck with his hand. When police arrived at Cook's Eden Prairie home, they observed marks on the woman's neck and hemorrhaging in the woman's eye which is consistent with strangulation.

Cook, 24, is scheduled to appear in court this week. The Vikings have placed Cook on an indefinite paid leave from the team.
