MANKATO, Minn. (AP) — Joe Schiller’s goal midway through the third period was the fourth straight by Minnesota State, Mankato, which rallied from a four-goal deficit to tie Alaska-Anchorage 5-5 Saturday in the Western Collegiate Hockey Association.
The Mavericks (3-10-1, 2-7-1) trailed 5-1 after Curtis Leinweber’s power-play goal at 7:31 of the second period. It was part of a three-goal outburst in 4:01.
MSUM’s Eriah Hayes followed with a power-play goal and J.P. Lafontaine had two power-play goals to set the stage for Schiller’s finale.
MSUM had 46 shots on goal to just 13 by the Seawolves (5-7-2, 2-7-1).
UAA goalie Rob Gunderson had 41 saves, including 18 in the third period.
Phil Cook and Evan Karambelas combined for eight saves for MSUM.
