Man, 56, Killed In Ten Mile Lake Helicopter Crash

MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) – Authorities have recovered the body of a man who was killed when a helicopter crashed into Ten Mile Lake Wednesday night, according to the Cass County Sheriff's Office.

Authorities said the body of 56-year-old John Zacher of Hackensack, who was piloting the helicopter when it crashed at about 7 p.m. Wednesday. His body was recovered about 150 feet from the shore of Ten Mile Lake and in about 30 feet of water.

A passenger in the crash, a 55-year-old woman, was able to swim to shore and was taken to a hospital and treated for hyperthermia.

The cause of the crash is still under investigation by the Cass County Sheriff's Office and the Federal Aviation Administration. An autopsy to determine Zacher's cause of death is pending.
