Wis. Man Drowns After Kayak Capsizes

MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) – A Wisconsin man drowned Friday afternoon after his kayak capsized on the west side of Shell Lake, authorities said.

John D. Frisco, 56, of Clear Lake, Wis., called 911 while his kayak was sinking around 1 p.m. Firefighters and DNR wardens attempted to rescue Frisco, but he was too far off in the deep water to be saved.

Washburn County Sheriff Terry C. Dryden said Frisco was apparently fishing over the fish cribs just outside the lake's sand bar when his kayak capsized.

Divers located Frisco, and the Washburn County Deputy Coroner pronounced him dead at the scene.

The investigation has been turned over to the Wisconsin DNR, Dryden said.
