Former Viking Gets Into Cane Fight With Old Foe

VANCOUVER, British Columbia (WCCO) -- As if to prove that some grudges last a lifetime, there was a brawl between two former football players, both now 73 years old, over the weekend.

The fight happened at the Canadian Football League's alumni luncheon in Vancouver, British Columbia Friday evening.

Former British Columbia Lions quarterback Joe Kapp, who was also once quarterback for the Minnesota Vikings, and former Hamilton Tiger-Cats defensive lineman Angelo Mosca were the parties involved in the row.

Reports say their rivalry extends all the way back to 1963, when, during the 1963 Grey Cup (Canada's version of the Super Bowl), Hamilton won the game. Kapp and the rest of the Lions were upset by what they considered a dirty hit made by Mosca.

Following the game, Kapp refused to shake Mosca's hand, which kicked off the 48 years' worth of bad blood between the two.

On Friday, Kapp was seen trying to give Mosca a bouquet of flowers. Reports say Mosca responded with an expletive. From there, it devolved until the two alumni were swinging at each other with their canes.

Following the 1963 incident, Kapp would go on to lead the Vikings to their first-ever playoff appearance in 1968.
