ST. PAUL (WCCO) — The state of Minnesota could be in for another budget battle when the next session gets underway.

That’s why lawmakers are anxiously awaiting Thursday’s announcement of the economic forecast.

Some say it could show a $500 million to $1 billion deficit. If that happens, we could be in store for another budget battle like the one that led to a 20-day government shutdown this past year.

In that battle, lawmakers couldn’t agree on how to wipe out a $5 billion projected deficit.

Eventually, Gov. Mark Dayton and state lawmakers agreed to a mix of cuts, shifts and borrowing.

The budget numbers will be released Thursday.

Agreed, Lets shut it down for real this time!

  2. A REAL State worker, who actually WORKS! says:

Here’s a suggestion, take Scott Walker’s advice and start doing something about the 50% of lame imbecile employees here at the MN State level that make great income, but literally do nothing. Believe me, I work here, and it’s the most maddening thing watching it occur, year after year. Kid you not, get rid of the 50% non-workers, and the rest of us will still have the same work load, yet we will all have one heck of a lot less State taxes to pay. You fellow citizens that are not State employees would be completely irate if you witness what I see each and every day, guaranteed.

And yes, I am at work right now, during my break, and trying to make you people realize that it’s very broken over here. And ya know what’s truly funny, most people here know my (and a few others) exact feeling about this, and they hate us for it, and would like to see us leave. But thank God, the very Union that I despise so much grants me the right to make these feelings know, and no one can do a thing about it Stand up people – we can’t do it all ourselves without your help. Choose to continue to sit on your thumbs, and you have nobody to blame but yourselves.

Are you surfing the interlink on worktime, hard worker?

Interlink? Yet another dimwit that can’t read, nor spell. You should become a State worker – you’d fit right in, imbecile.

interlink is what your hero gwbush said.

  3. Ordinary Guy says:

Hold it a second, the government is spending money on residents of Minnesota and putting bread on their tables, granted, even if it’s off of another resident’s table. Still, that’s better than where you’d send that money given the chance, right?

Straight out of the country forever, is where. Look at the tags on what you just bought and tell me I’m wrong.

    aint duhvursidy grate?

  5. Candy says:

Stop the government funding and let those that work and hire workers thrive. Those that want handouts better have a reason other then “I got pregnant form five differant guys and I need money”.

  6. Wilber says:

Another 500 million to 1 billion reasons that Ziggy gets no MN state dollars. They can’t sell enough tickets to air this week’s game – bigger problems with a bigger more costly stadium.
