Mixed Martial Arts Fighter Gets 60 Days For Beating Wife

MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) -- A mixed martial arts fighter was sentenced to 60 days in prison for violently attacking his wife last summer.

Brett "Da Grim" Rogers, 30, of Apple Valley, pleaded guilty to third-degree assault on Sept. 15. Additional charges of domestic assault by strangulation, stalking and endangerment of a child were subsequently dropped.

Police said Rogers had been drinking on June 29 before choking his wife and repeatedly punching her in the face and head. Rogers' daughters were present at the time of the beating.

Police found the victim shortly thereafter walking by a nearby school with a bloody face, a lump above her eyebrow and a missing tooth.

She said she did not want to press charges because she didn't want to get him into trouble with his job. After being released from the hospital, the woman refused to meet with officers and told them that the assault was her fault.

In addition to the jail time, Rogers was also sentenced to three years of probation and a $500 fine.

Rogers, a 6-foot-4, 270-pound heavyweight fighter, became well-known in 2008 for winning the first mixed-martial-arts match to air live on national television.
