Tips For Hosting A Festive Holiday Party

'Tis the season to throw a party, so here is some advice to help ensure your guests have a good time.

A fun and festive drink to offer at a party is a champagne poinsettia. The drink is a mix of champagne and cranberry juice. When garnished with a slice of lime, the red and green combination adds a nice touch to a Christmas party.

"You can have those served butler-style as your guests are arriving," says Wendy Gustafson, director of catering at Sofitel Minneapolis.

To save money, there are alternatives to offering an open bar.

"Drink tickets are becoming popular. It's a great way to control the cost of your alcoholic beverages," Gustafson says.

Experts suggest setting up food stations in different locations around the room. That will encourage people to mingle.

When it's time for the party, Gustafson says the host should relax and focus on having a good time.
