Minn. Firewood: A Hot Holiday Gift Among The Rich
MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) -- No diamond rings and fancy cars for the rich and famous this Christmas -- all they want is firewood from Minnesota.
A new article in the Wall Street Journal said firewood from J.N. Firewood is one of the most popular gifts.
The company is located in Fort Ripley, Minn.
It seems everyone from Saudi sheiks to Hollywood stars want white-barked birch logs to burn in their fireplace.
Some people even get them just for decorating the fireplace and never burn them.
A 30-pound box of split hickory, oak and birch runs around $40 plus about $25 for shipping -- enough for a few fires.
But if you live in Minnesota, you can get a 1,100-pound pile of firewood for about $155.
Company officials told the Pioneer Press they have customers from Hawaii to Florida and they ship a lot to New York.
The company also said they do send wood to Saudi Arabia. J.N. Firewood shipped rail containers filled with birch, oak, hickory and apple firewood to the deserts of the Middle East.
