Curiocity: John Lennon Artwork Heads To Edina
It's hard to imagine it's been 31 years since John Lennon's death, but his legacy -- in more ways than one -- continues to live on.
Since his passing on Dec. 8, 1980, Lennon has showed the world his message of peace and love in a number of ways -- and it's a message that still carries today.
As a leading theme among his collection of artwork, which will be on display starting Friday at the Galleria in Edina, Lennon's memory will be forever preserved through these messages of truth.
The collection includes a limited edition of serigraphs, lithographs, copper etching of drawings and song lyrics. Donations ($2) are suggested to view the artwork but are not required.
Smaller reproductions of the pieces will be available for sale, ranging between $200 and $20,000, as well as other Lennon items like T-shirts, magnets and more.
This is a return visit of the artwork in the Minneapolis area and it has served as a chance for Lennon's fans to "Come Together" to celebrate his life. The pieces have made its journey throughout the country for the past 20 years, thanks to Yoko Ono and Legacy Fine Art Productions.
As an added bonus -- and to tie in the theme of "Give Peace a Chance," those who visit the exhibit are encouraged to write their wishes for peace and post them on the wishing tree inside the Galleria. Once the event is over, those wishes will be given to Yoko Ono.
All the donations from the event will go towards the Smile Network International, a humanitarian organization that aims to provide surgeries to children in developing countries.
For fans, it's a chance to get up-close-and-personal to the work of a legend -- and give back at the same time.
The Artwork of John Lennon will be on display from Dec. 9 to 11 at the Big Bowl Courtyard in the Galleria in Edina. For more information about the event, click here. The event will take place from noon to 9 p.m. Friday, 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. Saturday and 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. Sunday.
