Seasons Of Hope: Find Ways To Give
WCCO has a goal to bring awareness to giving during the holiday season. We hope to inspire our community to reach out and make a difference in the lives of others through stories.
With the help of Volunteers of America, The Salvation Army and Sharing and Caring Hands, we've identified families in-need in our community and are featuring these families during the holiday season in our 10 p.m. newscast. These are families in hard luck situations: people who have just lost their jobs; people who are taking on additional responsible for other family members; people suffering from illnesses and can't make ends meet.
With the help of local business leaders, we were able to fulfill some of these needs and make this a season they will not forget. In doing so, we hope to inspire others to do the same by volunteering or donating resources, materials or money to others in need.
Volunteers of America
Through our thousands of human service programs, including housing and healthcare, Volunteers of America helps more than 2 million people in over 400 communities in 46 states as well as the District of Columbia and Puerto Rico. Since 1896, we have supported and empowered America's most vulnerable groups, including at-risk youth, the frail elderly, men and women returning from prison, homeless individuals and families, people with disabilities, and those recovering from addictions. Our work touches the mind, body, heart — and ultimately the spirit — of those we serve, integrating our deep compassion with highly effective programs and services.

Sharing & Caring Hands
Sharing and Caring Hands is a compassionate response to the needs of the poor. We are set up to be a safety net organization to help with whatever needs are not being met. This includes but is not limited to providing meals, clothing, showers, shelter, transportation help, rent deposits, rent help, medical assistance, dental care, furniture, school expenses, funeral assistance, and other miscellaneous needs.
Sharing and Caring Hands provides these with dignity, while affirming God's love for all his people regardless of their circumstances. We reaffirm the self-worth of each individual and want to assist in that person reaching his or her greatest potential.

The Salvation Army, an international movement, is an evangelical part of the universal Christian Church. Its message is based on the Bible. Its ministry is motivated by the love of God. Its mission is to preach the gospel of Jesus Christ and to meet human needs in His name without discrimination.

VEAP
VEAP founders believed that helping a neighbor in need ultimately strengthens the community. VEAP has been operating under this principle for over 35 years, providing a range of services to help low-income people meet immediate needs and reach their long-term goal of stability. Today, VEAP serves the residents of Bloomington, Richfield, Edina and South Minneapolis utilizing a unique mix of professional and volunteer services.
