MINNEAPOLIS (AP) — The Gophers women’s basketball team is trying to get back on track after a 4-5 start to the season.
Minnesota has a three-game winning streak after beating Air Force, Harvard and Alcorn State last week. Point guard Rachel Banham helped fuel those victories, and she was named the Big Ten Freshman of the Week on Monday for her performance.
She averaged 15.7 points, 4.7 rebounds, 3.7 assists and 3 steals in those three games while shooting 51.4 percent from the field and 50 percent from 3-point range.
Banham was a star at Lakeville North High School.
The last Gophers player to win the Big Ten’s weekly freshman award in women’s basketball was Kionna Kellogg last January.
