ST. PAUL (WCCO) — A 47-year-old priest has been sentenced for sexually abusing a woman who was seeking his spiritual advice and counsel, according to the Ramsey County Attorney’s Office.

Christopher Thomas Wenthe of Delano, Minn. received a stayed prison sentence of 4 years and 9 months, was ordered to serve one year in the Ramsey County workhouse and fined $30,000 for his conviction on a charge of third-degree criminal sexual conduct.

The judge ordered Wenthe to pay up to $90,000 in restitution for the victim’s medical treatment. He will also be on probation for 15 years and must register as a predatory offender.

Wenthe was convicted on Nov. 15, 2011.

At the time of the incident, Wenthe was a priest working at Nativity Catholic Church in St. Paul.

Wenthe was ordered to begin serving his workhouse confinement Wednesday.

Are you kidding me! This has nothing to do with politics. This man committed a horrendous crime and the victim deserves justice. So are you saying that if a pastor brings a gun to church and murders everyone in attendance that the state has no right to convict him? I think the state should have the right to prosecute you for your statement.

He didn’t commit any such crime. You just have a woman who was scorned and she became angry. I am not even Catholic and this whole story makes me sick. His life is ruined because they fell in love and she couldn’t handle what she had done. Hell hath no fury than a woman scorned.

And so a Roman Catholic judge decides to give a Roman Catholic priest a light sentence. Interesting. He could have earned the restitution money after serving the full term instead of serving only a tiny fraction of it. Which parish will Father be assigned to upon release? Our Lady of Perpetual Motion? St. Ecstasy?
