Minn. Man Rescued After Falling Through Lake Ice

PELICAN RAPIDS, Minn. (AP) -- A Rothsay man is recovering after falling through the ice and getting stranded in the fog on a lake in northwestern Minnesota.

Forty-two-year-old Al Dunbar had left his fish house on Crystal Lake near Pelican Rapids Wednesday evening when he drove his four-wheeler into open water on the lake trying to find the shoreline.

KFGO-AM reports Dunbar managed to crawl out of the water before the ATV went under. His cell phone still worked, so Dunbar called 911.

Pelican Rapids Fire Chief Trevor Steeves says it took three firefighters wearing special submersible suits carrying a flat-bottomed boat across the lake to find Dunbar.

Dunbar was found an hour-and-half after plunging into the icy water. He told his rescuers, "I'm sure glad you're here."

Dunbar was treated for hypothermia and released.
