Police: Woman Kidnapped, Raped In Coon Rapids

COON RAPIDS, Minn. (WCCO) -- Police are investigating after a woman reported being kidnapped and raped near Highway 10 in Coon Rapids.

According to police, the woman called Coon Rapids Police around 10:25 p.m. Tuesday. She said about two hours before, she was parked in a parking lot when two men started small talk with her.

One of the men then ordered her into her car with a knife and forced her to drive through Coon Rapids for 30 minutes. The woman said he made her drive in a park area, with large homes nearby, and eventually forced her to park in a lot where the sexual assault allegedly occurred.

Police say it seems to be in the vicinity of the Anoka Ramsey Community College and the Mississippi River but not on campus.

The woman said the man tossed her phone out of the window during the drive and ran off on foot after the assault.

The woman drove about a mile before she was able to flag down a passing driver who called 911 for her.

She described her attacker as a white man, 25-30 years old that was clean shaven, 5-foot-10 to 6-feet-tall, wearing a blue hooded Adidas sweatshirt.

Cmdr. Paul Sommer of the Anoka County Sheriff's Office said a case like this, where the attacker is a stranger, is extremely rare.

The woman told police the kidnapping by the Pawn America but she was unsure where she was raped and could only describe it as an unknown parking lot in a park-like area in Coon Rapids.

Police say they are examining several pieces of evidence, including if the men appear on surveillance tape in the pawn shop lot, and in addition have processed the woman's car for evidence as well.
