It’s almost time to play a real NBA game. The Timberwolves will tip-off the preseason Saturday night against Milwaukee at Target Center (7:00 PM on 830 WCCO Radio). It’s been a long fall with lockouts, last-minute negotiations, a hurried and frenzied free agent period and in the last week, on and off trades involving the league’s biggest stars. But now, it’s finally time to play basketball.
The Wolves have spent the last two days in Mankato, the home of owner Glen Taylor. They’ll be spending the evening Friday enjoying a Lasagna dinner at the owner’s home before heading back to the Twin Cities.
Thursday, the news was all about the newest member of the team, J.J. Barea. His presence in the lineup will provide veteran leadership and a steady hand according to Coach Rick Adelman. But the team is rushing through training camp to get set for the December 26th opener. And that means learning a whole new system in about three weeks.
Wolves Forward Anthony Tolliver Talks About The Adjustment
Obviously, the last few years have been a struggle for the team. The Timberwolves have been consistently one of the worst teams in the league since Kevin Garnett was traded to the Boston Celtics in 2007. This year’s team is building hope within the fan base though. An NBA Coach with a long history of success in the league gives fans hope. Young players like Kevin Love, Michael Beasley, Ricky Rubio and this year’s first round pick Derrick Williams look to be a solid nucleus of NBA players. And while an NBA Championship seems worlds away, a return to competitiveness would be a huge step up for the franchise. One of the first steps in that process is learning how to win again.
Anthony Tolliver Talks About Building A Winning Tradition
For the first time in over 4 years, there is excitement again at Target Center. It starts for real Saturday night.
