MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) — A 16-year-old boy had to be rescued Saturday, after he fell through thin ice while on a go kart.

The Chisago County Dispatch received a call around 5:40 p.m. Saturday that someone fell through the ice on South Lindstrom Lake. Deputies, along with the Lakes Area Police Department and Lindstrom Fire Department responded to the scene.

A witness told officials the teen boy was riding a go kart and went through the ice about 800 yards from the beach.

Witnesses on scene were able to rescue the boy and pull him to shore. Police say it is believed he was in the water for about 15 minutes before being rescued.

The teen was checked by medical personnel and appeared to be OK.

The Chisago County Sheriff’s Office is investigating the incident.
