MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) — A 16-year-old boy had to be rescued Saturday, after he fell through thin ice while on a go kart.

The Chisago County Dispatch received a call around 5:40 p.m. Saturday that someone fell through the ice on South Lindstrom Lake. Deputies, along with the Lakes Area Police Department and Lindstrom Fire Department responded to the scene.

A witness told officials the teen boy was riding a go kart and went through the ice about 800 yards from the beach.

Witnesses on scene were able to rescue the boy and pull him to shore. Police say it is believed he was in the water for about 15 minutes before being rescued.

The teen was checked by medical personnel and appeared to be OK.

The Chisago County Sheriff’s Office is investigating the incident.

There have been plenty of warnings about thin ice and no one told this kid?

  3. Indiana Jones says:

15 minutes and unhurt? I don’t think so.
Exaggeration on the time or this kid is Superman.

  11. Bud says:

16 year old kids do crazy things, they are just learning.

    1. Al says:

No they are NOT just learning. A 16 year old should have known better. He is maybe a year and a half from being an adult. Mommy and Daddy are going to have to pay big bucks to have that fished out of the lake. But you know darn well that he’ll prob get it back. They wouldn’t want to “traumatize” their poor little baby by keeping the cart from him.

  12. Enough said says:

At the age of 16 hopefully he had not yet had time to dilute the gene pool. Unfortunately someone did or he would not have been out on thin ice on a go cart.

  13. jackactionhero says:

There is already at least 4-6 inches of ice on a lot of metro lakes.
