Duluth Council Votes Against Marriage Amendment
DULUTH, Minn. (WCCO) -- Duluth has become the first city in Minnesota to take a stand on the proposed constitutional amendment that would make same-sex marriage illegal in Minnesota.
On Monday night, the Duluth City Council passed a resolution, saying it was against the constitutional amendment. The vote was 6-2.
Council member Jeff Anderson said, "This is about maintaining inclusive communities that will help us grow and thrive."
But Council member Jim Stauber countered, "I don't think City Council is the place to convince people whether to support this amendment or not. We're here to conduct city business."
The amendment will appear on the November ballot.
