Heroin Valued At $660K Seized From Woman At MSP

MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) -- Minnesota law enforcement seized more than four pounds of heroin from a woman's luggage at Minneapolis-St. Paul Airport, valued at more than $600,000.

A Carver County Deputy with the Southwest Metro Drug Task Force received information that a woman, Veronica Enriquez Becerra-Vargas, 25, of Bakersfield, Calif., was a drug courier and she had plans to deliver heroin to Minnesota.

Authorities learned she would be on a flight from Los Angeles to Minneapolis. They met Becerra-Vargas after she exited the flight and then got her luggage from baggage claim.

When searching her luggage, authorities found a false compartment. Inside the compartment was a wrapped package weighing about 4.4 pounds that contained heroin.

Becerra-Vargas was arrested for drug possession and turned over to the Drug Enforcement Administration and Homeland Security Investigations.

Authorities said the street value of the seized black tar heroin is estimated at $640,000.

Anyone with information related to this incident is asked to contact the Carver County Sheriff's Office at 952-361-1212.
