PARK RAPIDS, Minn. (WCCO) — A K-9 Officer was sent to the hospital after being injured in an incident early Tuesday evening, according to the Hubbard County Sheriff’s Office.

At 6:55 p.m., the Sheriff’s Office received a call of a suicidal party trying to harm himself in Park Rapids. Park Rapids Police and the Hubbard County K-9 Unit responded.

When they arrived, the man refused to comply with officers. He then punched the K-9 officer in the head, which knocked the officer to the ground. The officer’s K-9 dog then apprehended the man.

The officer suffered a broken hand during the incident and was treated at a hospital.

Charges are pending for assault on a peace officer, the Sheriff’s Office said.

If the officer was punched in the head, why was it the officer’s hand that was broken?

    1. RFF says:

Just guessing when he fell on it that it broke.

Too bad that guy wasn’t allowed to hurt himself. I say if people want to die let them!

Thats how they handle suicidal people now, sick the f’n dog on Them? Someone should smack the officer again in the head!

    1. Superchik1017 says:

The person who was attempting suicide punched the officer and knocked him out. The dog responded to the assault of his handler just like he was trained to do. No one “sicked” the dog on the person.

    2. Peace says:

Thank goodness the K-9 dog was there. Someone else could have been hurt or killed without the K-9 stepping in and handling the situation.
