4 Minnesota Kmart Stores Slated To Close

MINNEAPOLIS (AP) — A partial list shows four Minnesota Kmart stores are set to close as part of the store closings announced this week by the parent company of Sears and Kmart.

The four Kmarts are in Willmar, Duluth, New Hope and White Bear Lake. No Minnesota Sears stores are on the list.

The list released Thursday represents 79 of the 100 to 120 store closings announced Tuesday by Sears Holdings Corp.

The company says employment varies by stores and format, and it could not provide the total number of affected employees.

Sears Holdings said it could no longer prop up “marginally performing” locations and would refocus its efforts on stores that make money.

Sears and Kmart merged in 2005. The projected closings represent only about 3 percent of Sears Holdings’ U.S. stores.

Now lets close some walmarts. What??? One going up at Brookdale and another on 169 Rockford. Ahhhh!!! Cheap stuff breaks and cheap food is cancer.

      @ Research

The one on 169 and Rockford where Four Seasons Mall is not a done deal because the residents do not Walmart there. Where the one in Brookdale is going it has the demographics to support. The only competition the Walmart Supercenter will have is the Cub Foods accross the street and the Target on Shingle Creek parkway!

No 1 is forcing you to shop at walmart, so pizz off.

  3. Tom says:

The problem with Sears and Kmart is that the stores are very boring. They have a few brand names that people have heard of but that is about it. And they seem to keep brands that are not selling and are slow to make changes!

personally I love kmart for the main reason that they didn’t take away the layaway…i am a single working mom and that makes my life much more simple…but it is very nice to be able to go shopping and not to stand in line for ever like at walmart…between kmart and aldi i don’t ever have to go to walmart and i love it…I sure hope they don’t close the st. cloud store!

  5. SOB says:

Kmart likes to fire old people because they are too slow and just so you don’t sue them they also throw in a life time 25% discount card.
You got what you deserve Kmart!!!!!!

Walmart is going to occupy the Sears in Brookdale next year. They better keep the New Hope open.

  7. josie says:

K Mart in New Hope killed itself. For a long time, they employed mostly Hispanics who did not speak English. Customers tired of no one understanding them when they shopped, so they took their business elsewhere. and they did not return. Not good business strategy.

  8. History Buff says:

Let’s be nice to K Mart and Sears, as Sears started in North Redwood Minnesota before moving on to Chicago!

    @History Buff:
And “that’s” a reason to be kind to them?

I love shopping at KMart. It’s a clean not cluttered store with awesome products and prices. Please please do not close any more of the KMart stores. KMarts are quiet, not cluttered, clean, no stock in the isles, great parking, good prices, bettere quality items than Walmart for less. The other competitors are more like salvage product stores. KEEP KMART STORES OPEN!!
