Business Fire In Mpls. Forces 1 From Home

MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO)-- A man who lived above a Minneapolis business was forced out of his home because of a fire.

The fire broke out at Uptown Massage on Lyndale Avenue South around 3 a.m. Thursday.

Firefighters woke up the man who lives above the business, Alan Joseph, and got him out safely.

Fire crews said they were alerted to the fire by a neighbor who called 911.

"I smelled something very suspicious -- sort of a like a bonfire. I walked over the building and I noticed that the doors had orange glowing embers on the side next to the doorknob," said Angel, the neighbor who called 911.

"Her name is Angel -- appropriately. (She) apparently smelled smoke and called the fire department which probably saved my life," said Joseph, who said he just bought the building two months ago.

Crews haven't determined the cause of the fire.
