MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) – Two people were killed in a crash late Thursday night after their car lost control and struck a tree in Red Lake Falls, according to the Minnesota State Patrol.

The accident happened at about 11:14 p.m. Thursday on Highway 32 near 4th Street in Red Lake Falls, which is just north and east of Crookston in northwestern Minnesota. When authorities arrived, they determined that a vehicle was traveling northbound on Highway 32 in Red Lake Falls when it lost control on a slushy roadway and slid sideways, striking a tree.

Shawn Balderston, 19, and Terry Balderston, 30, both of Red Lake Falls, were taken to hospitals, where they were pronounced dead. Authorities determined Terry Balderston was driving the vehicle at the time of the accident, and neither were wearing seatbelts.

The Minnesota State Patrol was assisted at the scene by the Red Lake County Sheriff’s Office.
