Global Citizens Pay Oil Companies Not To Drill In Amazon

Institutions and people from all over the world– including U.S. movie stars, Japanese shops and Russian foundations — have contributed to pay oil companies millions of dollars to halt drilling in the Amazon jungle.

However, some environmental groups and institutions see this pay-off as a demonstration that oil companies are (more or less) allowed to hold the world’s biological and ecological diversity at ransom.
