Man Arrested For DWI After ‘Sniffing’ Whipped Cream Cans

ST. CLOUD (WCCO) — A 23-year-old St. Cloud man may have been sniffing whipped cream cans before he crashed into a pole Saturday evening, according to police.

At 10:45 p.m., police officers were dispatched to the 800 block of 2nd Street North on a call of a motor vehicle accident where a vehicle struck a pole. When they arrived, the driver, identified as Steven Michael Johnson, showed multiple signs of impairment including “lethargic movements and very poor balance,” according to the complaint.

Inside the car, police discovered numerous bottles of whipped cream cans.

Johnson was placed under arrest for driving while impaired from a hazardous substance. While Johnson was being searched, officers also located a pill of Alprazolam, which is a controlled substance. Johnson told police he did not have a prescription for the pill.

Johnson was booked and released at the Stearns County Jail for third-degree DWI and fifth-degree drug possession.

  2. Poor St Cloud says:

This could only happen in St Cloud…..Wisconsin…..or Florida……

And “sniffing” whipcream is really a bad way of saying it…..

    He was “huffing” the propellant!

Or he was really fat….and having a diabetic reaction……

  3. tomsmegpa says:

He was actually the Sterns Co. dairy king crowned last June.! His cholesterol has been way over the top ever since!

  4. Joseph Rodela says:

They are called “Whipits” or “Hippy Crack” and you “huff” it, not “sniff” it. You certainly NEVER drive on it. You can barely sit up straight.

  5. Try again says:

You can also smoke it if sniffing doesn’t work well.

or shoot it up the p**per and does a great enema.

“numerous bottles of whipped cream cans” Over packaging again.

    1. Moore says:

Dem cub reporters don’t know no better. Maybe the cans were inside bottles—like a ship.

  7. BPath says:

The worst part is that it ruins the whipped cream. Makes it all runny and stuff!

  8. What Next? says:

I hear that when it is banned, there is going to be a synthetic type created. Seriously, why do people do these things?

  9. Patrick says:

Whoever told this guy that Nitrous makes your car go faster should have been a bit more detailed in the directions.

To all of you uninformed readers. there is a GAS that is used as a propellant in cans of whipped cream. The gas is Nitrous Oxide, YES, the same gas that you can get at the dentist. It gets you higher than a KITE if you breathe enough of it in. Yes, you can buy it for your car, to increase the horsepower, but most people don’t know how to get it, or use it safely. Some resort to buying a lot of whipping cream cans, puncturing out the bottom, then inhaling the gas to get high. I have had it at the DENTIST’S office, and yes, it does leave you very disoriented for a while until you breathe in enough regular air to clear your head. I would not recommend operating any kind of machinery while under the influence of this stuff, it deprives your body of oxygen, which gives you that ‘high’. Breathe enough of it in long enough, you are as bad or WORSE than a DRUNK, at least for a while. The only good thing about it is the effects don’t last as long, but the bad thing is that the cops can’t tell tell what the concentration of it is in your system.

  14. See BS says:

How do they prove the guy had whip cream in his system? Whip-it’s only last a minute.

You have to have a controlled substance in your blood to be charged with DWI.

    1. hate the system says:

They probably can’t. He was charged with the DWI but any lawyer will probably be able to get him off, won’t be cheap though.

      1. See BS says:

Well – if they don’t find any controlled substances in his blood, they can only hit him up with wreckless driving.

Now the story says they found a prescription pill in his pocket, so it probably had nothing to do with the whip cream in the trunk.

For all of you making your stupid ignorant comments I hope and pray that no one in your life ever have an addiction. I am in no way making excuses for this person but asking that you have a little compassion for what his family is going through and realize that he clearly has an addiction problem and it is not a joke!

    1. jackactionhero says:

      Addiction?

      Clearly?

I don’t think so. Not relevant here.

      1. Really People? says:

I know the person – he is an addict and this is a quick high. Please know the facts before you make statements!
