Man Arrested For DWI After 'Sniffing' Whipped Cream Cans

ST. CLOUD (WCCO) -- A 23-year-old St. Cloud man may have been sniffing whipped cream cans before he crashed into a pole Saturday evening, according to police.

At 10:45 p.m., police officers were dispatched to the 800 block of 2nd Street North on a call of a motor vehicle accident where a vehicle struck a pole. When they arrived, the driver, identified as Steven Michael Johnson, showed multiple signs of impairment including "lethargic movements and very poor balance," according to the complaint.

Inside the car, police discovered numerous bottles of whipped cream cans.

Johnson was placed under arrest for driving while impaired from a hazardous substance. While Johnson was being searched, officers also located a pill of Alprazolam, which is a controlled substance. Johnson told police he did not have a prescription for the pill.

Johnson was booked and released at the Stearns County Jail for third-degree DWI and fifth-degree drug possession.
