Man Arrested After Fire In St. Paul Home

ST. PAUL (WCCO) -- Police have arrested a 28-year-old man in connection with an overnight fire in St. Paul.

Officers responded to a situation at a home along Virginia Street in St. Paul. Officials said a man allegedly set his bedroom on fire inside the home around 1 a.m. Tuesday.

Police said they arrested David Allen Mason in connection with the fire.

According to officers, Mason lived at the home and got into an argument with another occupant before setting his bedroom on fire. Fire officials said he left after starting the fire. He was apprehended in Maplewood.

St. Paul Fire Marshal Steve Zaccard said it appeared obvious that Mason was attempting to kill someone by setting the fire.

The fire seriously damaged the bedroom and caused smoke damage throughout the rest of the house.

Three adults and two kids -- ages 2 and 5 months -- were able to make out it safely. The Red Cross is helping them out.

The county attorney will review the case and see if Mason should receive additional charges beyond arson.
