Man Dies In St. Paul House Fire

ST. PAUL (WCCO) -- Firefighters are investigating a house fire that killed one person Wednesday morning in St. Paul.

The fire happened near Dayton and Dunlap. Crews responded after a neighbor called 911.

When firefighters arrived, all three floors of the home were on fire.  At one point, all firefighters had to leave the house because the floors were getting too dangerous.

According to fire crews, a man in his 60s was found dead on the first floor.

His family thinks he was trying to escape his three-story house that he had lived in since the 1970s.

The victim, who was not immediately identified, was a military veteran and worked at 3M for decades. His family said the man had been battling colon cancer. He also had one son.

There is still no word yet on the cause of the fire.
