New Program To Support Education Of Organ Donation
ST. PAUL (WCCO) -- Right now, when you register for a new ID or license, you're asked about organ donation. But making that choice no longer just means you'll only check a box.
You'll also be asked if you'd like to donate $2.
The money will go toward the "You and two" program which provides information on organ, tissue and eye donations.
Minnesota Secretary of State Mark Ritchie explained how donating his daughter's organs after she died helped his family heal.
"To be able to save and improve those lives began to melt that ice around my heart and began to give me my life back as well," he said.
About 60 percent, or 2.5 million Minnesotans are currently on the organ donation registry.
