ANOKA, Minn. (WCCO) – At least one person is dead after an early-morning fire at an Anoka apartment complex, according to the Anoka County Sheriff’s Office.

Authorities responded to a report of a fire at about 4:15 a.m. Saturday on the 3000 block 6th Avenue North. When fire crews arrived, there was smoke in a building and officers evacuated the building but could not gain access to the victim’s apartment.

Fire officials said it was a small fire in the bedroom of an apartment that belonged to a male victim. Authorities said they believe the victim is in his 60s but have not identified him at this time. The apartment building has a total of eight units, and most residents there should be able to return to their apartments by sometime Saturday afternoon.

The Anoka County Sheriff’s Office said the cause of the fire is still under investigation.
