Police: Alleged Serial Bank Robber Arrested

BLOOMINGTON, Minn. (WCCO) – Bloomington Police arrested a 43-year-old man Saturday afternoon after he allegedly stole a car, broke into three houses and threatened multiple people, saying he had a gun, authorities said.

Police arrested William Roy St. John, who is also a suspect in numerous bank robberies, just before 4 p.m., when he was in a struggle with the residents of the third home he entered, authorities said.

According to police, they first got a call of a carjacking at 3:17 p.m. at Lucky 13's, a restaurant located on the 1800 block of American Boulevard. There, St. John allegedly struggled with his victim as others intervened. St. John escaped the scuffle when he threatened he had a gun.

St. John then stole a white Cadillac and drove off.

About 10 minutes later, a resident at a home located on the 8200 block of Abbott Avenue, which is about one mile away from Lucky 13's, told police a man entered his house, stole some money and his car keys, and drove off in a white Cadillac.

Five minutes after that, police received another report saying a man entered a home on the 8200 Block of Johnson Avenue and confronted one of the home's occupants in the garage. The victim fled, and the man chased her, armed with a knife. The report said the man was threatening he had gun, police said.

While police were at the house on Johnson Avenue, officers received an alert that a fight had broken out between a male intruder and the occupants of a home on the 8200 block of Johnson Circle. It was at this home that police arrested St. John.

Authorities described the residents at the Johnson Circle house as heroic, although they generally advise people not to physically confront their transgressors.

St. John is currently in custody at the Bloomington Police Department.

Surveillance cameras captured images of St. John robbing a Wells Fargo bank on Dec. 31. He ias also wanted for robbing a US Bank in Bloomington last week.

Police are still investigating the incident.
