Group Goes No-Pants To Fight Transportation Tedium

MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) – Public transportation has its surprises.

On Sunday, a surprise came to some Light Rail riders around 1 p.m. when a group of people took off their pants after getting on at the Mall of America station.

The pant-less demonstration was a part of the fourth annual No-Pants Light Rail Ride. The event's organizers say it's meant to bring a little strangeness into the routine and tedium of the day. They also say that the display is not meant to be indecent. Thongs and banana hammocks were forbidden.

After unbuttoning and unzipping, the event's participants just acted (as best they could) as though what they were doing was normal. They talked on their cell phones, amongst each other and may have even engaged in a game of "Angry Birds."

The idea for the spectacle got started by a New York improvisation group.
